How long you have been in business for yourself?

35 years

Business product or service:

Currently I create jewelry and painted furniture and offer a collection of fine vintage furniture and home decor.

What led you to start your business?

I have been a hair designer for 35 years yet have ventured off into a few different avenues of interests. While continuing my hair business, I opened and operated a home décor boutique, Bella Vita Home Accents in Homewood, Illinois for 7 years. I was truly blessed to have that experience and meet such wonderful people. I was able to use my creativity and share that with others. I knew the skills I had and I knew I wanted to do more, just was not quite sure how to move forward with it.

After I closed Bella Vita, a good friend told me “You have to get comfortable with the quiet – Then something will present itself to you, I know this to be true”. I loved that. It gave me the courage to be patient. I gave myself time. I knew it was okay to relax while I waited. I wanted to make sure what I did next was what I really wanted to spend my time doing. A true desire. I realized a couple things about myself during that quiet time. I realized I had a passion for attending flea markets & vintage events and I get a thrill from throwing parties and hosting events. Voila! I put my two thrills together. Quality Vintage and Handcrafted Wares Events! I am currently planning a huge event in Lansing, Illinois at the Historic Ford Hangar scheduled for September 5 & 6.

What kept/keeps you going during challenging times?

Positive encouragement from family and friends. It was genuine. It is really rewarding to see that others appreciate and enjoy what you do.

One lesson you’ve learned during your entrepreneurial journey.:

I have learned that it’s not always easy and it’s not always the way you imagined. But what you have to do is move beyond the hiccups and persevere through it all and find what truly makes you happy. I have learned to accept what God puts in front of you. It might not be in your plan but He uses it to help develop your character and supplies you with the skills you need to do what truly enjoy. Listen, learn and apply.

One thing about your business that makes you smile:

Creating ambiance and atmosphere for my guests. I love talking with people and sharing ideas. My business allows me to connect with many others, Share my collections and provide wares that they can also enjoy.
