Name of business:
Word Ninja (I know you’re not supposed to call yourself a ninja or a guru, but my daughter created an awesome logo, so ninja it is.)
How long you have been in business for yourself?:
I launched officially in July 2012 with a goal of being full time in three years. (Holy crap!)
Business product or service:
Freelance writing and editing for small and large businesses and non-profits (website copy, case studies, marketing material, etc.)
What led you to start your business?:
I freelanced on an off over the years I was home raising my three children and love the variety of projects and the independence. Although I work very hard at my day job in higher education marketing, I do not necessarily thrive creatively in an office environment and would like to work from my own space and make my own hours.
What kept/keeps you going during challenging times?:
My faith in God’s provision and call on me to write, the encouragement of my family, and an entrepreneurial spirit
One lesson you’ve learned during your entrepreneurial journey:
Trust the nudge and act on it.
One thing about your business that makes you smile:
Knowing I am making it happen and not waiting for it to happen to me. I also have to add the vision in my head of writing from a deck overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains
Favorite motivational quote:
This one is weird but makes me laugh and contains a dark, twisted truth about the fear of succeeding only to realize you really haven’t. Then again, I might be over analyzing it.
“I hope some animal never bores a hole in my head and lays its eggs in my brain, because later you might think you’re having a good idea, but it’s just eggs hatching.” – Jack Handey. Pretty Darn Motivating.
Favorite chocolate:
DARK and sometimes with chili pepper
